Memoir

Born to Hotgo jewellery merchants Chabi + Ular in the Azim Steppe, Pürevdalai is the middle of 3 children; an older brother Khalja + younger sister Möge. Unlike her siblings she only inherited her mother's white hair instead of the signature Hotgo blue, though all 3 have green eyes, and grey skin of varying shades.Being Hotgo, legend says members of the tribe trace their origins to boy and girl from days of yore; both of whom appeared from the belly of a steel giant.Pürevdalai had a relatively comfortable and happy childhood. She had a very loving family, and never wanted of anything due to her parents' successful jewellery stall at the Reunion marketplace. Of both parents, Chabi would frequently embark on expeditions to source high quality metals and gems across Othard, and Ular would refine the raw materials and painstakingly handcraft the ornate adornments.Once old enough, Khalja loved taking over the running of the stall and catching up with the extended family who would always stop by. He was also frequently having to protect the merchandise from Pürevdalai draping them over her horns and tail, much to the amusement of any onlookers. It was with her family that she gained a love for gilded adornments.Their younger sister Möge expressed no interest in the family business, but instead spent most of her time catching little critters in the grass and pressing flowers in any book that she could get her little hands on. On more than one occasion, said book would be her parents' business ledger.In recent years, the Hotgo were massacred at the hands of the Dotharl. There are but few survivors, all of whom were away at the time. Pürevdalai, her brother Khalja, and their maternal grandmother Börte were the only members of her family to survive. Börte was fortunate - some would say unfortunate - enough to be spared as she was of Dotharl descent. Pürevdalai and Khalja happened to be visiting Kugane at the time, but sadly their younger sister (9 summers old), parents, and 3 other grandparents were not so lucky.Upon returning to the Steppe and finding all but their grandmother massacred, Khalja wished to stay with their grandmother; but since Pürevdalai always yearned to explore the world at large, she took advantage of the situation and bought passage on the next ship leaving the Kugane trade port that was headed somewhere, anywhere, far away from Othard. That ship happened to be headed for Limsa Lominsa docks.Once arriving at Limsa docks, a Lalafell at customs was struggling with her name and ended up writing down "Piccalilli" because her name sounded like the condiment, and it stuck. Eventually that was whittled down to "Pickle", which is what everybody - including her living family - calls her to this day. At Limsa she eventually found work as a fishmonger for the Fishermans' guild, then later joining the guild itself to learn the angler's art. It wasn't much, but it was honest work for enough gil to cover living expenses. Many months later Pickle enrolled at the Arcanist's guild given her lifelong interest in all things arcane, and once adept enough to protect herself she ventured unto Ul'dah which has since become her home from home.Not too long after arriving in Ul'dah, Pickle overheard a conversation at The Quicksand about the Goldsmiths' guild. Suffice to say she immediately went to enrol, wanting to continue her family's legacy. She even now supplies various merchants at the Sapphire Avenue Exchange with her crafts, and it was during one of these transactions that she met her ex-wife; Billie Aspergilli.
